Items needed:
- Flat paint (of your choice)
- Glossy paint (of your choice)
- Painting rollers w/ extender
- Painting tape
- Painting tarp
- Ruler or other measuring device
- Step ladder
Items I used:
Clark and Kensington paint in both flat and glossy- Color:
Semi-smooth painting roller
Blue painting tape
Black garbage bags (to cover my floors!)
(1) First you'll want to begin prepping the area by covering all floors within the area and taping off any baseboard and trim-work your not wanting to get paint on.
(2) Next your apply your flat based paint to the entire wall/walls your wanting to paint. I found that my flat paint didn't go on as smoothly as a satin or semi-gloss paint typically does, so I definitely needed to apply a second coat.
(3) Once the wall was completely dry, I then went on to setting up my stripes. You can try to eye it but I'm too much of a perfectionist I had to measure every one out!
(4) Apply the glossy paint to every other stripe starting with your choice of either a glossy or flat stripe. I chose to start with a flat stripe as my siding walls are painted with a satin paint and felt it blended better.
(5) Lastly, allow about 15-20 minutes for your glossy stripes to dry before removing as you don't want your tape to get stuck to the walls! Another tip on tape removal is to pull away from the stripes as you remove otherwise you risk the chance of smudging the areas that haven't completely dried!
And waala! You created a beautiful accent wall in 5 easy steps!
Cute!
